First training ride (first schedule conflict)

April 5, 2008

Scheduling conflicts are inevitable when you have a lot of events to plan in a confined period of time. I committed to run in Harry’s Spring Run-Off (another charity close to my heart) long before the Bike Rally training rides were published. Who knew the first training ride, Finch-McCowan, would be as early as April 5th? I’m sure with all the events I would like to attend this summer, this won’t be the last conflict. Looking forward to re-connecting with my Bike Rally friends next week.

As for the unfinished business with that hill on Cummer Ave, I’ll have to deal with it another time… ;)

bike rally 2007 – Toronto to Montreal

April 8, 2007

Every year, hundreds of riders accompanied by a crew of volunteers cycle over 600 km from Toronto to Montreal in support for men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS. The Friends For Life Bike Rally is the largest annual fund-raiser for the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation and has been a huge success since it began nine years ago. This year’s Bike Rally goal is to raise 1 million dollars and we are proud to actively participate in this fund-raising effort.

There are a number of reasons why Mark and I embarked on this journey. First and foremost, it’s to give back to the community by raising money for the Toronto PWA to enable their continued support of those people living with HIV and AIDS. Secondly, it presents us with a challenge that we can conquer together. Thirdly, provides us with the opportunity to meet new friends through the teamwork and camaraderie of the event.

This blog is a place for us to share our journey with you from preparation and training through our fund raising efforts to the triumph and conclusion in Montreal.

the first stroke…

March 25, 2007

When Lucinda and Lesley are your next door neighbor it’s practically impossible to pretend you don’t know what Friends for Life Bike Rally is all about. I couldn’t start this blog without giving them the credit for “planting the seed” and thanking them for being such an inspiration.

After a couple of years of contemplating the idea of joining the large group of riders taking off from Church/Wellesley we decided to go ahead and make the idea a reality. Both, Mark and I committed to participate in the 9th Annual Friends For Life Bike Rally the largest fund-raiser for The Toronto People With AIDS Foundation. We are very excited and looking forward to this incredible journey.
